ABOUT WUPA @ WANARUAH

Creating more than art.

WUPA @ Wanaruah provides a platform for authentic Aboriginal art and the people and stories behind it.

WUPA @ Wanaruah is an initiative of Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation, a 100% Aboriginal owned community organisation based in Singleton on Wanaruah Country.

Through WUPA, Aboriginal artists are given opportunities to exhibit and sell their work, develop their practice and share culture with the wider community. WUPA works with both emerging and established artists from the Hunter and Upper Hunter.

Each artist brings their own story, identity and connection to their work. Across the WUPA collection you will find contemporary and traditional influences, stories of family and ancestors, connections to Country, cultural knowledge and individual experiences expressed through art.

THE ARTISTS

Young, emerging and established artists.

WUPA brings together Aboriginal artists with different backgrounds, experiences, styles and stories. Rather than reproduce a changing artist directory here, you can meet the artists and explore their individual profiles directly through WUPA.

SUPPORTING THE ARTISTS

More than something to hang on a wall.

Purchasing authentic Aboriginal art supports the people who create it.

WUPA describes every work as carrying something personal from its artist: memory, identity, culture, ancestry, connection to Country and individual experience.

Buying directly through WUPA helps create opportunities for artists to continue their practice, share their stories and participate economically through their art.

That's why this page doesn't operate as an art shop of our own. We want people who discover an artist here to be able to continue directly to WUPA and the people whose work they have come to see.

ACROSS THE HUNTER

Follow the WUPA Art Trail.

The gallery at the Farm is one part of a wider Aboriginal art experience across the Hunter.

The WUPA Art Trail takes Aboriginal art into locations throughout the region, creating opportunities for visitors to encounter local artists and their stories as they explore the Hunter.

WUPA's current Art Trail brings together works from more than 20 contemporary Aboriginal artists and invites visitors to experience their storytelling through culture, connection and Country.

PEOPLE + COMMUNITY

A practical part of our approach to sustainability.

Sustainability is also about the community around us.

Hunter Valley Resort + Farm has grown as part of the Hunter Valley community. For us, supporting that community means looking for practical ways to contribute rather than simply talking about it.

Providing a year-round home for WUPA artwork is one small part of that approach. The gallery creates another place for local Aboriginal artists to be seen, for visitors to discover their work and for authentic art to be purchased.

It also gives our guests an opportunity to learn a little more about the people, culture and stories connected with the region they have come to visit.
