Sustainability at Hunter Valley Resort + Farm

As a family-owned business on 100 acres in Pokolbin, looking after our land, water and community is part of how we operate Hunter Valley Resort + Farm every day.

From generating solar power and recycling water to reducing food waste and supporting local organisations, we continue to look for practical ways to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to the Hunter Valley community.

Solar Power & Energy Efficiency

More than 250 solar panels help generate power across Hunter Valley Resort + Farm.

We have also progressively replaced lighting with LED or compact fluorescent alternatives and use energy-efficient inverter systems across our operations. Together, these measures reduce our reliance on electricity generated from fossil fuels and help lower the property's greenhouse gas emissions.

Every Drop Counts

Water management is particularly important on our 100-acre property.

Hunter Valley Resort + Farm is not connected to town water or sewerage. Our water comes from dams located across the property, while stormwater is harvested and wastewater is treated onsite.

Treated water is stored separately and reused to irrigate our vineyard and gardens, helping us make better use of this valuable resource.

Reducing Waste

We separate used glass bottles, cardboard and paper for recycling and work to reduce the amount of organic waste sent to landfill.

Where appropriate, food and organic material can be put to another use around the farm, including composting and feeding our farm animals.

Even the grapes left after our grape-stomping experiences can find an appreciative audience with some of our farm animals.

This is one place where I would retain a little of the personality from your creative version.

Trees & Regeneration

Our onsite partner 4 Pines has worked with Landcare Australia on a program to plant 44,444 native plants, trees, shrubs, groundcovers and grasses each year from 2022 to 2025.

The program was designed to support regeneration and create a longer-term environmental legacy.

Important: I would word this as a 4 Pines initiative, rather than imply Hunter Valley Resort itself planted all 44,444 plants each year.

Supporting Our Community

Sustainability is about people and communities as well as the environment.

For more than 20 years, Hunter Valley Resort + Farm has supported local schools and worked with the Wanaruah community through Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation, including hosting the Wupa Art Exhibition, with funds raised supporting local Aboriginal youth.

We have also supported Dymocks Children's Charities, helping programs that provide books to regional children through primary schools, community centres, hospitals and classrooms.

A Family Business Thinking Long Term

Hunter Valley Resort + Farm has been part of the Hunter Valley for generations. Sustainability for us isn't a one-off project or a badge. It is an ongoing process of looking at how we use our land, water and energy, how we minimise waste, and how we support the community around us.

There is always more we can do, and we will continue looking for practical improvements that make sense for our property, our guests and the Hunter Valley.
